Dear readers,
I am sorry that I have written so little. I really have many thoughts that I should share. Real things that can help brighten the lives of even the smallest housefly. (Yes, I am one of those moods). So, I wish to share with you more of Mitchell's journey through puberty.
Two weeks ago, Mitchell surprised me when I got home from work and said, "How about you and I go on a date, I'm paying". Well never to be one to turn down free food. I profoundly responded, "Ok". Mitchell earned quite a bit of money working for Steve laying radiant heating tubes during the summer. It is not particularly hard but it was not particularly fun for the blossoming 14 year old. When I asked Mitchell, "Where do you want to eat"?
He told me quite proudly, "I want to go somewhere nice, you know, with a waitress."
Sensitive to his wallet, I started thinking about cheap places to eat that he might like. We got in the car and headed to Orem, cruising State Street looking for somewhere fun. He chose Sizzler and we walked inside. When he looked at the menu and saw the prices times two, he kinda grimaced, but he smiled at me and said, "Order whatever you like". Which ended up being water and a small salad bar. He ordered off of the kids menu. (Remember, I said journey through puberty - we are still at the beginning).
Mitchell resumes his cocky demeanor and goes up to the gal at the cash register. She rings up the total and tells me the total. He juts his chin in the air and tells us both, "I got this". With that he reaches into his basketball shorts and grabs his card. The gal at the register takes it and swipes it - nothing happened. She swipes again - nothing happened.
She smiles and whispers to him, "We don't take Walker's Loyalty Cards". Mitchell gets a little embarrassed and smiles at me. I start laughing and start reaching inside my purse.
Crappy dinner at Sizzler - $27
Gas driving all around Orem - $
Laughing with Mitchell after he asked me to dinner and then mix up his cards - Priceless
